u know, whenever i see other blogger's posts about reading stories to their young children. i feel a bit weird. sound so middle-class & westernised to me. i can hardly imagine my primary-school-level parents reading stories to me when i was young. They seldom 傾計 with us (in an affectionate way, as other parents do) , let alone reading stories , ha!
like u (and perhaps many other kids), i grew up reading alone & myself.
i think it's not the book-reading, but the parental invovlement that counts.
"i think it's not the book-reading, but the parental invovlement that counts " --> exactly. that's why i find the whole idea so alien , an almost untouchable . i can imagine parents who KNOW how to read stories to their children are those open-minded, liberal, affectionate, supportive, and know how to make themselves lifelong friends of their children..
story book reading is just one of the ways to get involved. there are certainly other (better or not) means too.
and of course, not all active parents would get the desired results. every child is his own individual. who knows what they will turn into in the future, right?
