On Car Free Day

I read it in the news that it's car free day in HK today.
Then it went on about how the CE and the officials are gonna get to work.
It seems really ridiculous when some, instead of having their usual door-to-door private transportation services, are taking cabs.
What's the point of having "car free" day then?
Wasn't the point of this whole thing to promote a greener way of living, i.e. taking advantage of public transportation and or doing car pooling?
Yes, indeed, cabs emit less GHGs than your phaetons, but doesn't it also produce more GHGs per head (if 2 people share a cab) than a mini van?
I dunno if cabs run on diesel or petrol, but if there're more green hybrid cabs around, then it'll be even better!
Though I very much doubt who's gonna do this given the high costs of these vehicles.

but........ cabs ARE public transportation.

if you ever raise the issue of cutting the number of cabs (i think the demand is less now???) the union would protest and will try to kill whoever raised it in the first place. (XD)

they run on LPG now, so i don't know if it's any greener (but should be more so than diesel?)

some of the officials live far up on the hill mah, no bus would go through so going by cab would be the only choice lor. (of coz.. they walk > mini-van > bus. but then there will be a whole bunch of G4 accompanying them wor.. um....)

really? i thought they're not. XD

i obviously can't live without cabs, surely won't want to cut back number of cabs running on our roads.

:D yeah, i had the same thought, but again, would there really be a whole bunch of G4s surrounding them? are they so important anyway?

i just heard on the news (not with my full attention so could have heard it incorrectly). our dear CE said that he's got a lot of security walking with him from pt 1 to 2.. blah blah blah... so it might actually be a disturbance to the ppl who usually takes the same route. (doh)

i plurked about CE walking past us when we were waiting for the bus one sunday morning, right? no G4 lor.. only his chauffeur following behind him closely. oh well.

:D exactly my point - i remember that you saw him walking pass you without G4s! XD

maybe they are in disguise. you never know.

CE has G4. CS also (seems) to have. Other bureau heads defintely don't.

that said, the news story on how various govt officials go carfree is quite entertaining.
