dress accordingly

getting to a certain age, for some people, means that they would have fewer choices when buying clothes.
they have this little voice in the head, "oh, your should dress according to your age, put that thing down! don't be ridiculous."
well, in most cases, you do.
you wouldn't wear spaghetti straps or hot pants when you hit 40.
at least not in public places that do not involve palm trees and/or sand or a pool or a fabulously tanned toned body.
but that does not prevent you from wearing light or even bright colours if you know what you're doing.
certain ensembles may never really be "in" but they're never "out".
e.g. you could still look elegant and appropriate for your age if you pair up a pink polo tee with a green one.
the only thing that probably would sell your true age is that once you've turned 45, your collars are worn down.
i guess it still would work if you want to wear them up, but if you're confident enough i guess with the worn-down collars, you probably will get a lot compliments instead.

i never really understand the obsession about audrey hepburn.
at one stage, i was much stunned by her beauty too.
but as i grow up, i've seen normal, real life people who are just as elegant.
then it just grew out of me.
so if really, you want to ask me to give an example of an elegant person.
i would probably not say audrey hepburn or grace kelly or any "classically beautiful" person.
just look out the window, see that pedestrian?
perhaps middle-aged, with a few grey hairs, in simple cutting simple coloured shirt and khakis?
that's her.
it's not the bag that screams "i'm expensive" at you that matters.
it's the attitude, the confidence, the things that she's been through, the places that she's been, the many people she's met... everything...that made the person she is today that matter.
it comes from the inner poise, like what bridget jones would tell you.
